Northland, New Zealand

As the name already says, this region is basically everything north of Auckland. It had a huge impact on Maori culture which can still be seen and discovered. Green hills and lonely bays to be expected up here.

DON'T MISS:
- go on a trip to the most northern point of New Zealand: Cape Reinga. We booked a tour so we could also have a drive on the 90 miles beach which shouldn't be missed, either.
- have fish'n'chips in the best fish'n'chips shop in the world in Mangonui! Enjoy your meal at the water front and have a nice stroll around town afterwards.
- take the ferry from Paihia to Russell, enjoy the view and blue sea and walk to the eastern beach of Russell. If you like boat tours, definitely do one of the trips through the bay of islands!
- drive along the bays between Paihia and Mangonui and relax in the loneliness.
- Visit the glowworm caves in Waipu.

The Tongariro Crossing, New Zealand

The Tongariro Crossing is the most popular hike in New Zealand. It takes 6-9 hours and is a 20km walk through a volcano area.

TIPPS:
- get hiking shoes, it's no easy walk and it can get difficult in sneakers
- take your camera, even though most of the landscape is quite brown during the hike, there are several sights which shouldn't be missed
- don't forget to bring a lot of water, sunscream and headgear. there are no shady places on your way
- plan your trip well as the weather needs to be really good to start the walk as it can get cold, windy and snowy on the volcanoes
-  start early and expect many people to do the hike as well, it is really popular!

DON'T MISS:
- Take a short or longer walk in the Coromandel Forest Park (Photo 1 and 4)
- Drive the most beautiful route on the west coast of the peninsula, the Thames Coast Road (State Highway 25)
- Don't hesitate to walk to the little bays on your hike to the Cathedral Cove (photo 5 and 7)

Mount Maunganui, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand

Mount Maunganui actually belongs to the city of Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty on the East Coast of the North Island. It is a really popular beach suburb which shouldn't be missed by sun seekers.

DON'T MISS
- You definitely need to walk up the Mount and enjoy the beautiful view down the coast
- Get some Fish'n'Chips and join many Kiwi families at Omanu Beach or Pilot Bay in the evening
- Don't miss the "Little Big Markets" and "Night Owl Cinema" during summertime
- Drive to the "McLaren Falls" near Tauranga and have a walk through the native bush and along the nice lake. Take a dip in the natural pools at the falls.
